Malaysia Prison Museum

The Malaysia Prison Museum is located within the former Peringgit Prison in Melaka. Built in 1860, it is the second-oldest prison in Malaysia and holds significant historical value.

From 1964 until June 1990, the building was used as the second branch of the Henry Gurney School, a rehabilitation institution for juvenile offenders. It was later upgraded and officially known as Peringgit Prison, continuing its operation until 2010.

On 27 January of the same year, the Ministry of Home Affairs approved the conversion of the prison into a museum. By 21 May, the final group of 143 inmates was transferred to the newly built Sungai Udang Prison, marking the end of its function as an active correctional facility.

Today, the Malacca Prison Museum showcases a wide range of exhibits that offer insight into Malaysia’s prison history. These include original prison cells, temporary detention rooms, a whipping area, the gallows, inmate admission record books, punishment devices, various types of prisoner uniforms, official attire, archival photographs related to punishments, and artefacts from prisons across different states in Malaysia that no longer exist.

Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum

Malacca Sultanate Palace Museum is located at the foothill of St. Paul’s Hill in Malacca and was once a royal residence of the Malacca Sultanate. Despite the passage of time, the palace has been well preserved and continues to reflect the elegance of traditional Malay architecture.

Although the design is relatively simple, the palace features beautifully hand-carved furniture and decorative details. A graceful fountain adds to the overall atmosphere, creating a sense of calm and serenity that many visitors find peaceful and soothing.

The palace consists of three storeys and is entirely constructed from wood, without any iron nails. The Stadthuys

The Stadthuys in Melaka, commonly known as the Red House, was built by the Dutch starting in 1650 and once served as an administrative office during the Dutch colonial period.
