Johor Ancient Temple, over 100 years old, is one of the oldest buildings in Johor. It is located on Jalan Trus in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Every year from the 18th to the 22nd day of the first lunar month, it hosts a series of activities, including a lighting ceremony, street washing, the procession of the gods, a night parade, and the return procession. The 8-kilometer night parade of the gods is a highlight.

Built in 1922, the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Glass Temple boasts over 100 years of history. Constructed entirely of glass, its walls are inlaid with 300,000 panes. Every wall and pillar is paved with glass, and the illumination is genuinely breathtaking.

The main deities are Brahma, the creator; Vishnu, the guardian; and Shiva, the destroyer. The temple hosts grand celebrations every year during the Fire Walk and Deepavali festivals, including cultural performances, parades, and traditional religious ceremonies.

The oldest bakery in Johor must be the renowned Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory, established in 1919. The owner still bakes their bread in a traditional matchstick-fired oven.

Besides their famous banana cake, they also sell cream cakes, coffee cakes, and a variety of breads. First, let’s talk about their delicious banana cake. The owner uses a low-sugar recipe and relies on the natural sweetness of real bananas instead of flavorings, resulting in a super fluffy, soft texture!

Hiap Joo’s banana cake is unlike any other you’ll find elsewhere. It’s truly delicious and makes a great souvenir.
