Ah Ma Ho Liao Cafe is a famous traditional food stall in Malacca. A must-try is the Ah Ma’s ancestral dry pan mee! The noodles are incredibly flavorful, and because they’re cooked in a clay pot, they soak up the sauce.

Next up is the traditional Malaysian toasted bread, a local favorite. It’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the kaya and butter are incredibly fragrant.

Malacca Stadthuys

The Malacca Stadthuys was built by the Portuguese in the early days of Malacca. They once held their offices there, constructed with red bricks imported from the Netherlands by the Dutch colonial government.

Church of Saint Paul

Jonker Street

A must-see destination in Malacca is Jonker Street. Several streets here are packed with delicious food, souvenirs, clothing stores, local specialty shops, and popular cafes. Every few steps, you’ll find a specialty shop selling a variety of affordable souvenirs. I recommend trying the Nyonya Laksa at Jonker88 and the pancakes at The Daily Fix coffee shop—they’re both incredibly delicious.

There’s even a night market from Friday to Sunday. This night market is very popular with locals and tourists alike, and it is bustling every week.

Baba Nyonya Museum

The Malacca Baba Nyonya Museum is a private residence, so if you want to visit, you’ll need to purchase a ticket.

The museum has two floors. The first floor is decorated with traditional Chinese wooden furniture, while the second floor houses the master bedroom for the bride and groom, as well as a suite.

Wandering through the main hall and the attic, you can clearly see the well-preserved Chinese heritage, while also catching a glimpse of British influences. I think it’s well worth a visit.

Nanyang Chicken Rice Ball

What’s a must-try in Malacca? It has to be a chicken rice ball! The best thing about chicken rice is that the rice comes in individual grains, unlike regular bowls of white rice. And if you’re looking for the best, you absolutely have to try this one: Nanyang Chicken Rice Ball!

For their fried chicken, you can choose between white or roasted chicken, though some restaurants only offer white chicken. Their chicken is truly delicious, juicy, and not dry or tough! A plate of six chicken rice balls for RM7.50 is a generous portion. They also offer different types of fried tofu and eggs. The staff are also very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Malaysia Prison Museum

The Malaysia Prison Museum houses numerous instruments of torture rarely seen by the public, as well as records of various criminal laws. Upon entering, the corridors on both sides are lined with prison cells.

The museum’s exhibition areas include the prison’s temporary holding cell, the whipping platform, the mess hall, toilets, the execution platform, authentic portraits, police uniforms from different eras, and artwork by inmates. While the museum also features caning demonstrations, photography of hangings, canings, and weapons displays is prohibited.

I think this is a perfect educational demonstration. If you are a parent taking your children to Malacca, you might as well go and visit it!

Melaka Straits Mosque

Malaysia is a Muslim country, so mosques are everywhere. However, the Malacca Straits Mosque is different from other mosques. It is located on the Strait of Malacca.

It is also a must-see attraction in Malacca. The sunset is a beautiful photo opportunity! Visitors who wish to enter the mosque should remember to wear long sleeves and long pants. Please respect everyone’s beliefs.

Peranakan Mansion

Peranakan Mansion Nyonya restaurant is incredibly hard to get into without a reservation. I highly recommend their Nyonya spicy stir-fried lean pork – it’s incredibly fragrant! And surprisingly, even though it looks like it’s loaded with chilies, it’s not spicy at all! Those who can’t handle spicy food should give it a try!

Let me tell you about a special appetizer: Baba roti. This dish isn’t on the menu, but it’s a hidden gem. Try the fried bread, which is incredibly fragrant! You can get a picture or just tell the waiter the name! The prices are above average, and the food is excellent overall – well worth a try!
